LARGE SCALE IMPLEMENTATION: ON-PREMISE DATA CENTER
The Requirements
A leading telco was in the process of rolling out new business and customer facing applications. They desired to have more than 1500 virtual servers spanning across 400+ physical servers to run the applications. The environment required for such a large scale application rollout comprised of a complex hybrid architecture with Microsoft Server 2012 & 2016 and RHEL Enterprise Linux on VMware Virtualization. They needed a reliable partner with expert skills to validate the design, enable supply of the various components of the validated BoM and implement the on-premise Data Center infrastructure without a glitch.
The Approach & Execution
The client’s architecture design consisted of a BoM with special consideration to high availability, elimination of single points of failure, resource optimization, performance and on-demand scalability – both horizontal and vertical.
Precision’s scope of work consisted of requirement analysis, assessment and understanding the application environment along with the various dependencies and the overall data center needs, design validation, enablement of BoM and implementation.
A sample of the various technology components that formed part of the design is as follows:
VMware Virtualized Cluster
Dynamic Resource Share enablement
High Availability
Virtual Networks with necessary access restrictions
Operating System & App Clustering
Microsoft & Red Hat platforms and so forth.
First, Precision’s subject matter expertise was brought into play by Technology & Product Certified professionals to perform a comprehensive validation of the design and suggest changes & improvements where appropriate.
Then, Precision’s Project Team proceeded to create a detailed and phased implementation plan in line with a mature project management framework, to manage the implementation through all the phases.
Precision’s implementation team employed their skills and experience in implementing specialized tools & techniques for deployment automation and orchestration enablement with Ansible, covering development, quality assurance & production environments.
The supply chain team at Precision worked in tandem, throughout the project lifecycle, to ensure that all components of the BoM were delivered and available for a hassle free implementation.
Precision’s Subject Matter Experts across technologies formed a well-knit team with the necessary L2/L3 teams to ensure a smooth end-to-end implementation and signoff.
The Outcomes
The desired objectives of requirements analysis, design validation, supply of data center infrastructure components and implementation were performed in line with the overall project plan, ensuring a complete implementation that met the requirements both from a technological perspective as well as from a schedule standpoint.
